  I am writing this letter in sadness and great disappointment about Pastor Jim Cosby, a “Person of the Cloth” in Yosemite Lakes Community Church. Pastor Cosby officiated for my Uncleservice, lacking any emotional and spiritual empathy for our family during this time.
  The day after my Uncle passed, Pastor Cosby visited my Uncle’s home. My Aunt introduced him to my uncle, aunt, mom and myself. He responded with a simple ‘Hi’ then proceeded to the kitchen table to discuss the cost of my Uncle’s Memorial. Mind you, my uncle and aunt are members of this Yosemite Lakes Community Church. My aunt expressed her concerns about how my Uncle’s life insurance was not fully vested and would not be enough for the cremation we requested. I informed Pastor Cosby that the family would provide a video and music we would like to share during the service and that all was on a thumb drive. He then said that it would cost $50 for the “sound guy,” $150 for video and tech (after I told him that I would provide the video already made), and $125 for his officiating cost. If we wanted the repast at the church it would cost $100 for janitorial service, and he knew there were other costs that he was not sure of but would have someone from the church contact us and let us know. The whole time he was discussing the “business” part of this devastating experience he was rubbing and scratching the family dog. His stay & discussion totaled about 15 minutes and then he excused himself. My aunt had to trot behind him and she had to ask the Pastor if she could get a hug of comfort from him. Pastor Cosby did not offer any comforting words during his time with the family and worse, he did not even pray with us.
  The day before my Uncle’s memorial I accompanied my aunt to the church to go over the plans for the service. Days before, I had emailed the Pastor the program for the Memorial, and today I was bringing him the flash drive and CD. He greeted me and my kids with a high five (how inappropriate) and my Aunt with a hug. He asked how the attire would be at the memorial and my aunt replied Hawaiian casual. He then asked if he was going to be the only non-Hawaiian there. (Inappropriate) He then asked my aunt if she wanted him to bring up my Uncle’s addiction, stating the only reason why he wanted to bring it up was to let the “people” know that just because you are imperfect in human form, when you get to heaven you are perfect because God has forgiven your sins. (This is personal) My aunt expressed how much she misses her husband and how she wants to be with him. His cold response was, “well you know when you go over there (heaven) he will not recognize you as his wife, you and him will not be married because there is no marriage in heaven.” (Unbelievable!) Pastor Cosby, instead of expressing words of comfort, he began talking about how his wife would miss him after three days if he had to go on a trip. I could not believe what he was saying, telling a woman who lost her husband, her husband who is never coming back, to compare his trips without his wife to a lifetime without my Uncle. He asked if there was anything that we would like to be said; I asked that if he would remind everyone that just because the memorial is over does not mean that we forget about my aunt. (1 Timothy 5: 3-16). He then turned to his notes to write what I would think, would naturally happen at a memorial or funeral in a church setting. We then left he hugged my aunt and another high five to me and my children.
  At the funeral, family members came to me stating the Pastor was stand offish. He was just sat back “watching” our family arrive. And to my surprise before closing prayer he did not mention or honor my request.

  Hello pastor Cody! This church is awesome!! They have groups, events, a great building, youth services, classes, and are elegant. The grounds are always clean, the staff is fun and inviting. Top notch sermons!
